A Circular Economy Taxonomy
27 APRIL | 12.30-13.30 | STAGE 1
The single greatest barrier to investing in the circular economy is lack of definition. Without clear definition there cannot be investor trust and without trust there cannot be investment. Is a circular economy taxonomy the solution?
A draft circular economy taxonomy delegated act was published on 5th April and will be adopted by the European Parliament in two months time i.e. June 2023. What sectors are targeted by the taxonomy? How ambitious are the criteria? What disruption will the circular economy taxonomy create across value chains?
In order to explore the anticipated disruption, the value chain that emits the most, that uses the most and employees the most i.e. the built environment, will be debated to explore the different pressures it may put on different actors in the value chain.
Agenda
1. Introduction to the Circular Economy Taxonomy: what it is, how it works, what sectors it will impact and when it will impact
2. A brief overview of the criteria to illustrate “substantial contribution” to Construction & Real Estate Activities. What actually is defined as a circular building?
3. Debate: circular disruption in the buildings value chain. What will be the impact of the taxonomy to the buildings value chain?
