Why Reuse of Resources is a “Need to Have”

26 APRIL 11.00-11.30 | MAIN STAGE

Pictures from space of the Earth show clearly the Earth’s resources -upon which we humans depend- are limited. Thus, nature itself shows us that recycling and circularity in our use of the Earth’s resources are not a “nice to have” but a “need to have”!

A population of organisms grown in the laboratory with access to limited resources will at first grow slowly, then exponentially until resources begin to dwindle and growth stabilizes. Ultimately, however, the organisms die out as they become poisoned by their own waste products, so we know what happens when organisms use and then discard essential limited resources.
